Study Centre for Indigenous People’s Economic Autonomy
The Study Centre for Indigenous People’s Economic Autonomy (IPEA Study Centre) brings together Indigenous and academic expertise with the aim of developing shared knowledge that meets the needs of Indigenous Peoples.
Focusing on collaboration between academic and non-academic groups (Indigenous local governments, public authorities, Indigenous organizations, research teams), its mission is to democratize and develop knowledge and skills to strengthen Indigenous entrepreneurship and economic development.
In operation since 2019, the IPEA Study Centre is formed of a team of specialists in issues specific to First Nations and Inuit. We work closely with our Indigenous partners in a spirit of co-construction and knowledge sharing.
The IPEA Study Centre was formerly known as the Economic Autonomy for First People and Inuit (EAFPI) Study Centre.
Our current projects
Illustrated guide to Inuit entrepreneurship
As part of a co-construction approach with local players, the IPEA Study Centre will draw on its expertise in Indigenous entrepreneurial support to develop tools tailored to the Inuit of Nunavik, highlighting their culture and reality. The support tools will use art as a means of communication. This project is being carried out in collaboration with the Nunavik Investment Corporation.
Decision-making tool: Nunavik Business Association or Nunavik Board of Trade?
In partnership with Makivvik Corporation, we are collecting and analyzing current, specific and contextualized information and issues that are unique to Nunavik. This research collaboration aims to gain a better understanding of Nunavik’s business ecosystem, and to establish a structure that will enhance and support local businesses.
